Tamaki | #62 on the Labour list
I am 39 years old and am the oldest of four children to parents of Croatian and Samoan heritage. I am a born and bred Aucklander and currently run my own small business. I am a proud member of the Labour Party of which my family has been involved in many years.
I come to you with a past that has developed my sense of respect for the diversity that live amongst us from different parts of the world, a respect for my neighbour who may not share my beliefs but a concern for them as a fellow human being. I come to you as a person who accepts others regardless of their place in society, status and life style.
I have been a funeral director for close to twenty years and have previously worked as a public servant for both the Department of Labour and the Ministry of Social Development as a case manager and programme facilitator. These roles have allowed me to engage with every day New Zealanders on a one-on-one level to meet their request and effectively case manage their situations. It was here also where I was involved in activism as a member of the PSA.
As a former public servant I have experienced first hand the realities that face people when they are out of employment, people who required financial assistance and people who were desperate and needed a way forward, working in this area allowed me to empower others when they needed it most. This I believe is not only human nature but values that are embedded in Labour. It was rewarding to find solutions and to find a way to secure people paid employment or tertiary training.
I look forward to being an advocate for the people of Tamaki, there are many exciting plans for the future and I want to ensure that this can be achieved through the Tamaki Transformation Plan and other initiatives that call on for a contribution from the people.
I will be working hard on issues that people have spoke to me to date which amongst many things the ever increasing cost of living, jobs, training, housing and ensuring we don’t sell off our Kiwi owned Assets.
I am a passionate New Zealander who values hard work, a strong sense of community, a love for family and a desire for social justice.
